Michigan Weather = Indoor Gardens

Brr! It sure has been a cold spring here in Michigan. Just as we have come to know, there is no predictability to the weather here in the Mitten, and it can really put a damper on things. Last Monday the weather was 64 degrees and sunny. I woke up on Tuesday to see snow, which was followed by rain and a high of 38. Ridiculous.

For some time I had been considering growing my own medical cannabis as a way to cut down on costs and travel to my local caregiver. Due to my lack of a green thumb I had opted to stay with him, but recently I am getting that spring itch, which makes me want to give it a go. Unfortunately, the weather scampered any plans I had for a secured locked up portion of my yard to grow my stash. I can’t tolerate this unpredictability, and want any crop that I plant to be successful.

That is why I have decided to go with an indoor hydroponic system.

I am choosing to put my hyrdo system in the same room as my furnace, where there is no outside sunlight and where the temperature is most consistent. I have dedicated enough room to purchase a system that will allow me to grow my 12 plants that I am entitled to by law.

An indoor system will allow me to avoid many of those Michigan weather pitfalls and also keep my crop more private and at less risk of theft than if it was outside. I live in a suburban setting with nosey neighbors, and I could just see one of them getting into my back yard and pilfering my stash.

Hydroponics are also better for growing more abundant plants, and I really can’t wait to see how they turn out. Best of all, I can grow year round!

I think my first crop will be a mixture of OG Kush and Blueberry Yum Yum, which should come in nicely and treat the muscle stiffness and spasticity that I have been experiencing lately.

Of course, the upfront cost is going to put a pretty healthy ding into my wallet at first, but if I can get some good grows out of this system then I should make my money back semi-quickly.

What do you say? Would you prefer to grow your cannabis outdoors or use an indoor hydroponic system? Let me know in the comments.
